Credit Union

The first student owned and operated credit union at Scott Middle School is back this year.

The “Scorpion Branch” operates during lunch periods on Wednesdays throughout the school year. Students can open interest-drawing savings accounts at the credit union with only $1, and make deposits or withdrawals during hours of operation.

The Scorpion Branch is sponsored by REGIONAL, a not-for-profit financial institution serving the area since 1961. Memberships opened at the student credit union will also be valid REGIONAL memberships, so students may access their funds after school, on weekends or during the summer at REGIONAL on Kennedy Avenue in Hammond, US-6 in Portage, or at any of thousands of Credit Union Service Centers worldwide.

REGIONAL also currently operates student credit union branches at several other area school. The Portage High School Indian Branch opened in 1990 and continues to operate today. During the 2006-07 school year, REGIONAL will open student credit union branches at Hobart High School, Bishop Noll Institute and Morton High School, and will sponsor the “Buck Stops Here” program at Morton Elementary School.
